Cumbria LEP seeks to strengthen Energy Panel

13 December 2019

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) is looking to recruit individuals to join one of its key Sector Panels and help shape Cumbria’s future energy sector development.

CLEP’s Clean Energy Sector Panel recently saw its remit extended beyond nuclear to cover the wider energy and clean growth agenda in recognition of Cumbria’s unique energy generation offer.

Now, CLEP wants to ensure that the Sector Panel’s membership covers the diversity of Cumbria’s energy sector as effectively as possible.

Sector Panel Chair Dr Rebecca Weston said: “We recognise the significant opportunity for green growth and energy generation in Cumbria and want to make sure that we have effective representation on the Sector Panel to help us progress this.

“The nuclear sector is very well represented on the Panel and we’re keen to exploit Cumbria’s potential right across the low carbon energy agenda, picking up on expertise across on and offshore wind, wave, tidal, biomass, hydrogen and carbon storage.

“We’re also keen to focus on transmission and network and system expertise as well as technology.

“For those reasons, we’re particularly keen to hear from anyone involved in those fields, who thinks that they may have something to offer as the Panel develops its work plan.”

The Clean Energy Sector Panel is one of nine established by CLEP in autumn 2018 comprising business leaders, local authorities and other public sector bodies alongside voluntary sector representatives.

Their role is to work collaboratively to deliver economic growth, productivity and prosperity within their sectors.

Anyone interested in joining the Clean Energy Sector Panel is invited to apply by submitting their CV and a brief covering letter outlining their experience in the energy sector to Jo Lappin, Chief Executive of Cumbria LEP, by Friday, January 10. Contact details can be found here.

Successful applicants may be requested to attend an interview before appointments are confirmed.
