What is the Innovating for Success Programme?

Innovating for Success is a new grant programme launched by CLEP on 30 September 2022. The focus of the programme is on supporting projects in Cumbria SMEs that:

  • Support additional or enhanced innovation in SMEs in Cumbria.
  • Contribute to carbon reductions in Cumbria’s SMEs (i.e. reduction in the carbon footprint of business activity).

NOTE: The programme has now closed and was over-subscribed – thank you to all who applied.

With grant support, the IfS Programme has supported a range of Innovation and Decarbonation projects across Cumbria including:

Jacksons Timber

Have three timber yards and one manufacturing site, received grant funding of £50,000 towards the total project costs of £100,000 to buy equipment for a new production facility at Lillyhall.

Burlington Slate

Have received £20,000 of £240,000 investment for installation of solar panels on the roofing of the quarry production sheds, forecasted to produce around 275,000 kWh of electricity per year.

Lakes Speciality Foods

Received grant funding of £50,000 towards their total project costs of £188,000 to implement technology to extend the shelf life of products supplied to businesses across the North West.

Storth Machinery

Used their grant of £10,000 towards a total cost of £33,743to replace all incandescent light bulbs with LED lights in the production building.

The Crown Hotel

Received a grant of £20,000 to help meet the costs of £123,582 to install a 40 KW Solar array and a number of electric recharging station at the hotel.

Ackerley Milton Mains

Used their grant of £20,000 to install solar panels on the farm’s self-catering holiday cottages. This will lower their electricity costs and carbon footprint. The total project cost is £63,500.


Kombineer Ltd

Will use a grant of £23,670, to further develop JointEffort.io, a software platform for discovering the capabilities of specialist engineering and technology organisations.

Brathay Trust

Will use its grant of £18,422 to replace single-glazed windows at its outdoor centre. It helps meets total costs of £55,825 for the work to the Georgian manor house on the shores of Windermere.


We Are Digital

Is using their innovation grant of £25,000 towards a £50,000 project to develop affordable digital marketing packages for hospitality and retail businesses.
