Cumbria Constabulary to host events to help businesses protect employees from domestic abuse

24 October 2018

Cumbria Constabulary is hosting three events across the county to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the responsibilities faced by businesses.

These events aim to support employers in assessing and managing the risk faced by employees. Employers have a responsibility for the safety of employees and have protocols in place to assist with personnel issues and care for the wellbeing of staff, but very few address issues such as domestic abuse. In 2011 one third of domestic violence homicides happened on workplace grounds.

The invitation to attend extends to managers and HR professionals. Information and support will be provided in developing internal policies, and there will be a number of impressive and interesting speakers who will cover the reality of domestic abuse, including key facts and the significant impact faced by businesses.

Event dates and times are:

Monday 26 November 2018 at 1pm until 4pm. Large Conference Room, Barrow Police Station, St Andrews Way, Barrow-in-Furness LA14 2LE
Tuesday 27 November 2018 at 9.30am until 12.30pm. Council Chambers Allerdale Borough Council, Allerdale House, Workington CA14 3YJ
Thursday 29 November 2018 at 9.30am until 12.30pm. Training Suite A and B, Cumbria House 117 Botchergate, Carlisle, CA1 1RD.

For those interested in developing their corporate responsibilities, there is also the opportunity for staff to sign up for additional training sessions or join the Domestic Abuse Champions Network. This training will improve the knowledge and ability of these ambassadors to recognise the signs and trigger factors of domestic abuse, and respond appropriately. This can make Cumbria a much safer place and help keep employees safe within their workplace.
