Business Decarbonisation: A Review Of Cumbria Energy Intensive Industries
Manufacturing industry forms the backbone of the Cumbria economy, providing nearly a quarter of the gross added value (GVA) for the county, and over 25,000 direct skilled jobs with twice as many jobs in the wider supply chain and forms an integral part in our communities.
Over a broad range of sectors, companies that are either locally owned, national or multi-national have operated successful worldwide renowned businesses from Cumbria over many decades. Industry however is a significant factor in climate change, accounting for nearly a fifth of CO2 emissions in Cumbria and therefore industrial decarbonisation forms a key part of the drive to achieve net zero.
Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership have completed a review of our Energy Intensive Industries which comprise many of our biggest employers that deliver a major contribution to the Cumbria economy with internationally recognised businesses.
The review highlights how our companies are taking very proactive approaches to net zero as well as identifying significant opportunities for industrial decarbonisation that the LEP will champion.
