Shop Local Week set to celebrate the British High Street
The UK Government is set to launch a ‘Shop Local Week’ commencing on Monday 10 August and running until Monday 17 August, which will encourage people to pop out to their favourite greengrocer, bakery or florist, or any other local shop, to experience how businesses are safely welcoming their customers back.
Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) is encouraging businesses and customers to join in the celebration of local retailers by supporting the Government’s ‘Shop Local Week’. The week sits very well with CLEP’s ongoing campaign to ‘think local’ in order to support Cumbria’s economy and protect local businesses and jobs.
There are lots of ways that people can get involved during the week, from customers visiting their local high street and sharing their experience on social media, to business owners explaining what’s special about shopping locally online. Businesses, customers and other organisations can download the Government’s Shop Local Toolkit, which details how to support the week-long campaign, here. CLEP is also asking those that post on social media as part of the #ShopLocal week to include the hashtag #ThinkCumbria to support their wider ‘think local’ campaign and so that they can like and share Cumbria’s posts.
Jo Lappin, Chief Executive of CLEP and Chair of the Business and Economic Response and Recovery Group, said: “We’re encouraging customers to shop locally and support their local businesses and jobs. Our businesses have worked really hard to make sure that it is safe for customers to return and they very much look forward to welcoming customers back.
“After months of closure, it’s really important that we do everything we can to support our businesses and ‘restart, reboot and rethink’ our economy.
“In order for our economy to recover we need to see a return to a new normality and that includes returning to shops, restaurants, sports facilities and visitor attractions, which is what ‘think local’ and ‘shop local’ is about. This will help protect our businesses and jobs.
“Cumbria has a fantastic retail sector, with a host of excellent businesses that are really looking forward to seeing people back. Now is the time to get behind our retailers and help them get back on their feet.”
