Cumbria LEP announces second stage consultation on new Local Industrial Strategy

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership is to hold its second round of consultation on the county’s new Local Industrial Strategy. The strategy will outline how the LEP will work in partnership to deliver economic growth, prosperity and productivity improvements in Cumbria.

The LEP is working with businesses and the public and voluntary and community sectors to develop the new strategy, which will highlight Cumbria’s strengths and make a compelling case to Government and the private sector for investment up to 2030.

The LEP held four consultation events across Cumbria earlier in the summer. An outline draft is now being prepared for a further round of consultation at the end of October.

The two additional events will provide opportunities for participants to help shape Cumbria’s economic future by identifying how the county can take forward its significant opportunities and address its challenges. The aim is to make sure that economic growth and prosperity are accelerated and benefit Cumbria’s businesses and people.

The LEP is holding the interactive, second stage consultation events to ask businesses, public and voluntary and community sector partners to contribute their ideas for the development of the strategy and how this can best be delivered.

The second round of consultation events and dates and times are:

Wednesday 31 October: 9:30am to 1.30pm
LEP Conference & Business Centre, Redhills, Penrith, CA11 0DT

Thursday 1 November: 9:30am to 1.30pm
The Queen Katherine School, Appleby Road, Kendal, LA9 6PJ

A networking lunch will be provided at the close of each event. Bookings can be made at: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/cumbria-lep-17457022711

Cumbria LEP Chief Executive Jo Lappin says: “We are again inviting partners to join us and comment on the first outline draft of the Local Industrial Strategy, which has been developed with a wide range of our partners involved through our Steering Group. Importantly, it reflects the feedback that was provided during our first round of consultation.

“The first round of events were well attended and we hope that people will once again join us to help shape Cumbria’s economy through until 2030. The strategy is equally about people and places, so we would like to see a wide range of partners join us at the events.

“We are committed to making sure that the new Local Industrial Strategy is evidence-based and inclusive, with a long-term economic vision based on local consultation. It will set out how we can maximise Cumbria’s economic opportunities, increase productivity and address our key challenges.”

The LEP is keen to hear from a wide range of organisations, including businesses, councils, colleges, universities, schools, the NHS, the police, the fire service, charities and groups that represent particular sectors, such as advanced manufacturing, tourism, nuclear and agriculture.

Following this round of consultation events, a further draft of the new Local Industrial Strategy will be produced for ongoing consultation through to the development of the full draft document in March 2019.
