Professional Service leaders invited to join LEP's Sector Panel

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) is looking for leaders in professional services to join its Professional Services Sector Panel. The Sector Panel addresses a range of important issues for the sector including securing the future workforce and growing market share both within and outside of Cumbria.

Cumbria LEP’s Professional Services Sector Panel looks to address sectoral challenges and identify opportunities to support all the county’s businesses to grow the economy and improve productivity within and across sectors.

Professional Services represents a wide range of businesses that provide essential support to all other sectors, from accountancy and legal services through to veterinary and education services. The professional services sector in Cumbria accounts for 17,500 jobs, spread over 4,000 businesses. GVA per job is £56,629, which, although the second highest per sector within Cumbria, is still significantly below the UK average by 15%. It is currently under-represented and therefore has the potential for significant growth and will be instrumental in supporting inclusive growth for other sectors within the county.

There is real potential to grow the sector with increased cohesion and collaboration between sector-based firms it may be possible to build new opportunities to win business within the county that might otherwise have gone elsewhere.

The sector is critically dependent on skills and talent and therefore there is a need to develop the current and future workload, and in particular encourage Cumbria’s young people to build their career in the sector.

Joanne Holborn, a partner with leading business law firm Baines Wilson, and the Chair of the Professional Services Sector Panel said: “We are looking to expand the membership of the Professional Services Sector Panel to identify synergies within the sphere of professional services. We want to identify ways of working together to raise the profile of the sector and also to attract talented individuals to pursue their careers in Cumbria. We would welcome further members interested in promoting the sector and it opportunities within the County.”

Anybody interested in joining the Professional Services Sector Panel is invited to send an expression of interest to Joanne Holborn by emailing info@thecumbrialep.co.uk by Friday 17 June 2022.
