Productivity is an issue for the whole of the UK, and Cumbria is no exception, as currently our performance is lagging behind both the UK and the wider North West with the position unfortunately moving backwards rather than forwards.
Questions are sometimes asked about why productivity matters as it is perceived as an economic construct rather than an issue that directly affects businesses. However, the reality is that productivity at its simplest is about the efficiency of your business and by increasing this you can improve profitability and the demand for labour, which is currently in short supply.
Cumbria LEP (CLEP) has therefore completed a deep dive into productivity performance. Stephen Nicol, of Nicol Economics, will present the findings from his work. He will also be joined by a number of businesses, who will share their own businesses journey to improve productivity.
