Role Summary

Cumbria LEP is the Government-endorsed body with the strategic responsibility for economic growth and productivity in Cumbria. It has responsibility for developing strategies, advocating on behalf of Cumbria and co-ordinating partnership activity. CLEP is also responsible for delivering a range of Government funded activity including business support programmes.

The Government recognises that local economies are reliant on strong businesses to provide sustainable private sector-led economic growth and job creation. They provide funding through the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy for a programme known nationally as “Growth Hubs” which are seen as the central repository of information, advice and support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) within a defined local area, providing a co-ordinated approach to business support. CLEP delivers the national Growth Hub contract for Cumbria with a focus on driving business growth and productivity.

Our Business Growth Advisers help business leaders to access the support available, both locally and nationally, and to ensure that they are provided with the right solution at the right time. Our aim is to help businesses to innovate, be more creative, resilient and adaptable, and to find new ways of accelerating growth, from increased domestic sales through to exporting goods and services across international boundaries.

Business Growth Advisers will make a significant contribution to the development of the competitiveness and growth of Cumbrian businesses through advising them on a range of business issues. Advisers will work collaboratively with other business support organisations locally, regionally and nationally in order to maximise opportunities for support and funding for Cumbrian SMEs.

A background of working with SMEs and the ability to demonstrate empathy for entrepreneurial culture and to build effective relationships at Board level are crucial. You will be a confident networker and able to build professional relationships with other public and private sector business support providers. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential.

You should have experience of supporting SMEs at all stages of their life-cycle from early stage through to growth and succession. Some specialist knowledge in a particular business function or sector would be an additional asset.
