Business leaders invited to join the Cumbria LEP Board

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) is looking to recruit local business leaders to join its Board and support businesses to respond to the current economic challenges.

Being a member of the CLEP Board has never been more important as Cumbria’s economy and businesses face the highest level of inflation for 40 years. Joining the CLEP Board provides members with the opportunity to help shape Cumbria’s economic recovery and to support businesses to navigate the current economic challenges alongside moving forward the county’s ambitious growth plans.

Board applicants will have significant experience and a successful track record as an owner or senior executive in a business operating in the Cumbria LEP (CLEP) area. Applicants will need to demonstrate the necessary strategic leadership and corporate governance skills to operate effectively at Board level and have passion and commitment to work collaboratively in the best interests of Cumbria and its economy.

CLEP is committed to equality of opportunity and would therefore particularly welcome applications from female business leaders to address our commitment to have 50% female Board members by 1 January 2023. Additionally, CLEP is keen to ensure that the Board is representative of Cumbria’s key sectors and would particularly welcome representation from advanced manufacturing; the visitor economy and professional services.

Cumbria LEP Chair Lord Inglewood said: “The current economic challenges means that the CLEP Board has a really important role in representing the interests of our businesses and working with Government to help to respond to these.

“It is essential that the CLEP Board reflects the communities and businesses that we serve, geographically, sectorally and size-wise and we are therefore very interested to hear from business leaders, who feel that they can add something to our Board. We are also committed to increasing female Board representation and as such I would encourage our female leaders to put themselves forward.”

The roles are likely to require a time commitment of 1-1.5 days per month.

Board appointments are for a three-year term, with the option for re-appointment for a further three-year period.

Applicants wishing to put themselves forward as a private sector Board member should provide a current CV with a covering letter outlining the skills and qualities that they can bring to the LEP and why they are interested in joining the Board. Applicants need to be actively involved in a Cumbrian business.

Applications, should be marked ‘Confidential – Governance Appointments’ and emailed to info@thecumbrialep.co.uk.

The closing date for applications is 5.00pm on Friday 24 June 2022.
