Still time to register for Cumbria LEP AGM

Anyone wishing to register to attend Cumbria Local Enterprise’s (CLEP’s) online Annual General Meeting this Friday is still able to do so.

For the second year running, the meeting will be held via videoconference as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic and to make it easier for as many people as possible to attend.

Friday’s meeting, which runs from 2pm to 4pm, presents an opportunity to hear about the role CLEP has played in developing Cumbria’s economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chief Executive Jo Lappin said: “We invite businesses, public, voluntary and community sector partners to attend the AGM, and indeed anyone who wants to know more about what we do and our future plans as we seek to boost Cumbria’s economy following another year impacted by COVID-19.

“It’s an opportunity for attendees to hear about our work in supporting the development of mitigation measures; communicating the support available and assessing the economic impact on Cumbria, as well as future plans to work with partners to take forward Restart, Reboot, Rethink – A Plan for Cumbria’s Economic Recovery.”

CLEP, the county’s strategic economic body, recognised that delivering activity via videoconference makes it easier for people to participate by reducing travel time and costs and importantly reducing carbon emissions.

CLEP Chair Lord Inglewood, Board members and Mrs Lappin will outline the key activities delivered over the past 12 months and the priorities for the remainder of the financial year.

Deputy Chair Steve Cole, Chief Infrastructure Officer at BAE Systems Marine Ltd, will update attendees on CLEP’s investments. Attendees will also hear directly from businesses that have benefitted from funding support for capital investment programmes.

The meeting will also hear from the Futures Forum, which ensures that the views of young people are represented at a strategic level in relation to the economic development opportunities and challenges the Cumbrian economy is facing.

There will be an open question and answer session as part of the event. Anyone wishing to submit a question is able to do so by filling in the form as part of the registration process.
