Job Opening: Business Adviser

Introduction
Cumbria LEP (CLEP) is looking for a new business adviser, who is committed to supporting Cumbria’s businesses to move from recovery to growth and is keen to play an active role in our newly created Business Hub, which has been designed to ensure that all of our businesses get the support that they need to grow.

The Business Adviser will work directly with businesses to identify the support that they need and help them identify the most appropriate way to deliver this.

The post is initially until 31 March 2022 with the potential for this to be extended.

Purpose
The Business Adviser(s) will be responsible for delivering high quality business advice to a wide range of businesses operating across CLEP’s business sectors. This bespoke advice will be specifically focused on getting businesses back on the path to growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide bespoke advice and support to businesses based on an analysis of the key issues facing the business ensuring that this is delivered in line with the contractual outcomes of the programme.
  • Proactively generate leads and identify businesses that would benefit from advice.
  • Reach out to businesses through referrals from CLEP colleagues and external partners.
  • Refer businesses, which need specialist advice to other business advisory services delivered by Business Representative Organisations and CLEP’s own services.
  • Record the advice provided and outcomes achieved onto CLEP’s CRM System.

Person Specification
The successful applicant(s) will be an experienced Business Advisor with the ability to become immediately operational, once appointed. Candidates should have experience of delivering publicly funded contracts and the reporting requirements in relation to these. The successful applicant will also understand Cumbria’s economy, sectors and businesses and preferably have established and effective networks within Cumbria.

The successful candidates must have:

  • Strong communication skills – verbally, presentationally and in writing and confident in dealing with a range of audiences
  • Analytical skills to rapidly assess the needs of businesses and provide advice in relation to these.
  • The ability to deliver high-quality outcomes to time and in line with contractual requirements
  • Excellent planning, organisational, administrative and project management skills
  • Well-developed IT skills, including an understanding of management information systems, diary management, e-mail and CRM databases
  • A reasonable understanding of LEPs, their roles and responsibilities

Terms and Conditions

Contract: This is a fixed term contract up until 31 March 2022, with the potential to become permanent.

Salary: The salary will be circa £35,000 per annum, with a contributory pension scheme of 5%, 7% or 10%, which is matched CLEP.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week.

Base location: Home based. May be required to visit CLEP’s office in Redhills, occasionally.
