Hargreaves Enterprises becomes a Cornerstone for careers education

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) has announced that Hargreaves Enterprises has become a Cornerstone Employer, a role focused on giving strategic support to clusters of secondary schools and colleges and empowering careers provision in Cumbria.

Hargreaves Enterprises have partnered with Cumbria LEP’s Careers Hub and The Careers & Enterprise Company, investing time and resources working to inspire young people across the county, ensuring that they have access to meaningful engagements with employers and gain the vital work experience they need to help them make informed choices about their futures.

In becoming a Cornerstone Employer, Hargreaves Enterprises joins a strong contingent of employers working in Cumbria, including BAE Systems, Oxley Group and Lakeland Arts.

Cath Dutton, Careers Hub Manager at CLEP, said: “With a complex, fast-changing labour market, the need for high quality workplace experiences and links to employers has never been greater – and Cornerstone Employers are ambassadors for making this become a reality.

“We are delighted that Hargreaves Enterprises has joined us on this mission, offering their considerable experience and insight within the hospitality industry. They will work with their networks, the wider business community and their local team to make sure that our young people have access to the career opportunities they need.”

Stephen Hargreaves, Owner and Chief Executive at Hargreaves Enterprises, said: “As a company that operates The Cranleigh Boutique, The Fizzy Tarté, BAHA, the Lake View Garden Bar & Bornoisy and who has been in the area for over 10 years, and employs more than 60 staff, with plans to reach over 100 employees this year, we are very excited about the opportunities and experiences we can showcase to the next generation through supporting the Cumbria Careers Hub as a Cornerstone Employer.

“After all, Cumbria has two World Heritage Sites, is a place of natural beauty and has some of the top hospitality venues in the country. It’s in amazing place to work - a gift - and should be regarded with the same level of prestige as London for those looking for a top level hospitality career. Not to mention the other leading industries the county is home to.

“This is one of many reasons we are so passionate about what we do and want to be a part of the Careers Hub program. We can’t wait to get started.”

The Cornerstone Employer scheme underlines a continuing commitment by Cumbria LEP to help young people in Cumbria prepare for the world of work. The Cumbria Careers Hub, a partner project between Cumbria LEP and The Careers & Enterprise Company, launched in January 2019 and now celebrating its 2nd Year supports 40 secondary schools across Cumbria to deliver exceptional careers education.

The Cumbria Careers Hub programme offers a range of opportunities for local businesses and organisations to engage and benefit from partnership with local schools and colleges. If you would like to find out more, please email Careers Hub Manager, Cath Dutton: Cath.Dutton@thecumbrialep.co.uk.
