Cumbrian students congratulated on their A-Level achievement following a challenging year

Cumbrian students congratulated on their A-Level achievement following a challenging year Mike Smith, OBE (Business Consultant, CLEP)

As students across the county receive their A-Level results today, Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership’s People, Employment and Skills Strategy Group (PESSG) is congratulating Cumbria’s young people on their commitment, resilience and success, in what has been an incredibly challenging time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A-level exams were cancelled this year and have been replaced by teacher-assessed grades. Grades have been decided by teachers' estimates, by looking at various pieces of work and mock exams over the past year.

Crucially, these exam results are the key to a student’s next steps, and schools across the county are working together with partners to support students in reaching their anticipated destinations in September.

Mike Smith OBE, Cumbria LEP Board Member and Chair of its People, Employment and Skills Strategy Group, said: “Following such a challenging and unprecedented time, we are incredibly proud of Cumbria’s students for their commitment and success in securing results that will lead them to their future careers.”

“We would like to thank all of Cumbria’s students, school leaders, teachers and parents for their hard work and support in gaining these results. The level of collaboration and determination shown over the past 18 months is a real reflection of our community. Well done all.”

On Results Day, some young people may not receive the grades that they hoped for, while others may still be unsure about their next steps.

Mr Smith added: “The Cumbria skills system is ready to support our young people to the next step in their learning and career journey, whether that be Higher Education, Further Education, Apprenticeships or employment.”

Individuals are encouraged to consult with their school and follow UCAS guidance. They may also want to speak with their local college and apprenticeship providers regarding opportunities. In addition, the following services and resources may help those individuals to think about their future and make sure that they have all of the tools that they need to make the right decisions:
