New campaign celebrates our young people and promotes the great careers available in Cumbria

A new campaign is about to launch which both celebrates our young people and promotes the great careers available to them in Cumbria. The campaign is going live through social and traditional media.

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership’s (CLEP’s) Our Future campaign will highlight real young people, who are establishing their careers and at the same time showcase the wide range of career opportunities in Cumbria.

The campaign will appear both online and through more traditional routes, including a highly visible Stagecoach bus campaign.

Our Future is one part of a wider campaign by CLEP and its partners to promote Cumbria as a great place to live, work and invest.

Our Future is designed to encourage our own young people to want to build their careers in Cumbria and at the same time its sister campaign Your Future is designed to attract more people to come and live, work and invest here.

Currently, Cumbria has the slowest growing population in England and analysis, completed for the Local Industrial Strategy, identifies that the workforce will have almost 20,000 too few people to meet employment demands within the next decade.

CLEP Chief Executive Jo Lappin said that encouraging the county’s youngsters to look closer to home when it came to their Further and Higher Education and career choices will prove valuable.

She said: “This campaign is aimed at our young people, aged from 14 to 25. They’re our most valuable assets and we want them to know that they are appreciated and that there are excellent career options in Cumbria.

“The Careers Hub, and all of our partners within it, is doing a great job in linking the worlds of business and education. This campaign will give greater visibility to that excellent work and provide our young people with real role models that work in our key sectors.

“Many young people are only aware of the careers available close to home, yet Cumbria’s economy has a huge number of options and we need to make sure that we showcase these.”

Jo will launch the campaign on Wednesday, February 26 at a special event at CLEP offices at Redhills, near Penrith, organised to celebrate the successful first year of the Cumbria Careers Hub.

The Hub was launched in January 2019 and has since helped drive strong progress in Cumbria against every Gatsby benchmark, which describe high quality careers guidance.

It is managed, supported and part-funded by the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) along with the Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC).
