Cumbria's Careers Hub continuing to prosper

Cumbria Careers Hub 1st Anniversary, February 2020 Cumbria Careers Hub 1st Anniversary, February 2020

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) has welcomed the publication of new information that shows that Cumbria Careers Hub is continuing to support young people to develop their careers.

The Careers Hub was launched in January 2019 and has developed an effective partnership between employers and careers leaders in schools and colleges to drive forward careers education across the county.

Cumbria Careers Hub is managed by the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) along with the Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC).

It has brought together a range of innovative initiatives to support Careers Leaders to help their students to better understand Cumbria’s economy and the range of careers available to them in the county.

In addition, employers involved in the Careers Hub have helped make sure that:

  • more young people hear directly from employers and experience what it like in the workplace than the national average;
  • young people learn really understand Cumbria’s economy and the opportunities that are available to them;
  • Careers Leaders in the county continue to make progress on achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks, which is the standard for careers education.

Mike Smith OBE, CLEP Board Member and Chair of its People, Employment and Skills Strategy Group, said: “The recently-published performance data from CEC shows continued improvement by the Cumbria Careers Hub, which is extremely encouraging.

“It also makes me optimistic that our young people will be prepared for and can contribute to business and economic recovery once the impact of the current COVID-19 pandemic reduces.

“Cumbria’s economy, like the rest of the UK, is facing serious challenges over the coming months and our young people will be valuable assets as we face these challenges.”

Cumbria Careers Hub Manager Caroline Ledward said: “Our talented, dedicated Careers Leaders in schools and colleges continue to develop high quality, innovative approaches to Careers Education.

“Our Enterprise Advisors, volunteers from sectors across the economy, play an essential role in supporting schools and colleges to provide employer encounters, help young people to experience the workplace and to support Careers Leaders. It’s a great model that is working extremely well.

We’ve done a great deal already but we can do so much more with additional business volunteers. For that reason, I would really encourage any employers who feel that they have something to offer Cumbria’s young people to get in touch with the Hub.”
