CLEP recruits Export Manager to aid Cumbrian businesses

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (CLEP) has welcomed a new Export Manager to help local businesses grow their potential for international sales.

Sarah Peak has joined the CLEP team on secondment from the Department of International Trade North West (DITNW).

She does so as CLEP expands its range of business support, from one to one guidance to co-ordinated programmes such as Peer Networks across all sectors.

Sarah has 35 years of business industry experience working for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and large enterprises as well as establishing and operating her own business for the last seven years.

Her wide breadth of knowledge and experience is across a range of industries from tourism and hospitality to manufacturing and retailing both in the UK and Ireland.

Starting her working career in sales, then studying with the Chartered Institute of Marketing for her Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing, Sarah moved into marketing and product development before switching to commercial roles in procurement.

She said: “I’m delighted to be participating in this innovative partnership between Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and the Department of International Trade North West.

“My role will be to engage and drive collaborations with key trade and business support parties within the local ecosystem to ensure maximisation of existing export services and the development of programmes and activity to increase international trade across the region.

“Department of International Trade (DIT) can help companies export and grow into global markets. It can help businesses create an export plan, find an export market, choose a route to market, get export finance, manage payment for export orders, prepare businesses to do business in a foreign country, prepare businesses for export procedures and logistics, sell services overseas and manage risk of bribery and corruption.

“It can introduce businesses to overseas Embassies, involve businesses in Trade Missions and exhibitions and share its knowledge with businesses through a wide range of webinars.

“I’m looking forward to playing my part in helping Cumbrian businesses get the advice and guidance they need to help them grow their export potential.”

Jo Lappin, Chief Executive of CLEP, said: “I am really pleased that Sarah has been seconded to CLEP to provide much needed export advice to our businesses as they navigate the significant changes presented by the end of the EU Transition period.

“Our plan for economic recovery, “Restart, Reboot, Rethink”, identifies export as an important growth opportunity for many businesses, and Sarah has the right background and experience to help our businesses make this happen.”
