Still time to contribute to Cumbria’s new Local Industrial Strategy
Cumbrian businesses and public and voluntary and community sector partners across the county are still being encouraged to contribute to the development of the new Local Industrial Strategy (LIS).
Cumbria LEP’s consultation on the new strategy is continuing following well attended events over the summer and autumn, which were designed to make sure that all partners were involved in helping to shape Cumbria’s future economic growth.
The LEP is working with businesses and the public and voluntary and community sectors to develop the document, which will highlight Cumbria’s role in delivering economic growth and productivity and help ensure that all local people benefit from this. It will also make a compelling case to Government and the private sector for investment up to 2030.
Cumbria LEP Chief Executive Jo Lappin says: “There is still time to submit views on Cumbria’s new Local Industrial Strategy, and we would really encourage all of our partners to share their thoughts on how we can take forward Cumbria’s growth over the coming decade.
“We are particularly interested in great ideas that will help transform the county’s economy and we have uploaded the draft strategy to the Cumbria LEP website with a questionnaire which partners can use to provide their feedback.
“This is the third round of consultation inviting participants to provide comments as the document takes its final shape. The draft has been developed with a wide range of our partners through our Steering Group and through the earlier consultation events that we held in July.
“Our aim throughout has been to work with partners to develop a really high-quality Local Industrial Strategy to showcase Cumbria’s strengths to Government and potential investors.”
The outline draft of the strategy will be available for further online consultation and submission of views and comments until 14 December 2018. The final draft document is due to be ready in March 2019 and then submitted to government for its consideration.
The Government has said that Local Industrial Strategies need to be based on its five foundations of productivity: innovative ideas, people and jobs, major infrastructure upgrades, business environment and places for more prosperous communities.
It also wants the strategies to address its four grand challenges: growing the artificial intelligence and data driven economy; shifting towards green growth; shaping the future of mobility and meeting the needs of an aging society.
The LEP is still keen to receive feedback on the draft document from different organisations, including businesses, councils, colleges, universities, schools, the NHS, the police, the fire service, charities and groups that represent particular sectors, such as advanced manufacturing, tourism, nuclear and agriculture.
