Cumbria LEP encourages supply chain businesses to attend offshore wind event
Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership is encouraging local firms to exploit the county’s burgeoning offshore wind capabilities and attend an event to learn more about how they can benefit from supply chain opportunities.
Ørsted, a global leader in offshore wind which runs the Walney Extension project off the Cumbrian coast, is holding the event to showcase its latest offshore wind farm, Hornsea Project Two.
When fully operational in 2022, the new wind farm will be capable of powering well over 1.3 million UK homes throughout its operating life of at least 25 years.
The supply chain event takes place on Wednesday 14 November from 09:45 to 16:00 at the Magna Science Adventure Centre, Rotherham. Both the Ørsted project team and tier one suppliers will be on hand to help businesses understand the opportunities the 1.4GW wind farm will bring.

More than 50 local suppliers, from Carlisle to Lancaster, were involved throughout the construction of Walney Extension. Ørsted’s total offshore wind capacity operating out of Barrow is up to 1.5 gigawatts (GW), which is enough to power more than 1.2 million UK homes.
Cumbria LEP Chief Executive Jo Lappin says: “The county is already home to the world’s largest operational offshore wind farm, Walney Extension. The offshore wind sector is powering the clean economy, bringing investment, skilled jobs and supply chain opportunities to businesses in Cumbria.
“There is a proliferation of supply chain opportunities within Barrow and beyond, so the future potential for Cumbria is enormous. Attending events like this give local firms the chance to put themselves on Ørsted’s radar and get involved in other projects across the UK.”
