Lakes College: Construction Trades Level 2

This programme is designed to give an introduction to the Construction Industry with a specific focus on brickwork. This 16 week programme will give learners a set of skills to allow them to enter the construction industry. This pre-employment course will help you develop your practical skills and enhance your knowledge.

The programme will boost your confidence and motivation in a supportive environment. Work focused with advice and information on CV and interview skills, transferable skills, job applications and action planning – we will support you to gain employment or an apprenticeship.

Course Content
The course comprises of theory work and practical sessions in the brickwork workshop in the college’s state-of-the-art Construction Skill Centre. The subjects covered will include an introduction to:

  • Principles of building construction
  • Information and communication - health, safety and welfare in construction
  • building solid walling
  • Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures these skills can be then developed in your work placement
  • five days of construction related training leading to a Level 1 Health &Safety qualification and the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS Card) which is essential for entry into the construction industry.
  • Employability skills – job search tips, application and CV writing, interview skills and interpersonal skills.

A blend of face to face classes and practical sessions supported by online knowledge session and resources. Commencing on 30 October 2022 for 16 weeks. Employability classes will also take place throughout the 16 weeks which will include face to face classes and self-study.

Employer Costs

  • Large employer at 30% contribution. This is fantastic value for money with a 70% reduction.
  • Micro, Small and Medium employer at 10%. This is fantastic value for money with a 90% reduction.

Learner Costs
The training is free if you meet the following criteria:

  • Aged over 19 years of age
  • Working, recently unemployed within the last 12 months or looking for work e.g. coming back into the workforce after a career break
  • Resident in the UK and legally entitled to work in the UK
