Digital Skills Academy: Developing a cyber secure business

It’s reported that almost 46% of businesses and over 26% of charities across the UK reported having Cyber-Security breaches or attacks in the past 12 months alone! The good news is that 97% of these breaches could have been prevented through the adoption of simple measures.

This masterclass will teach you how to review and strengthen your cyber security measures through the application of a series of simple tools and techniques produced by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). More specifically the application of the NCSC tools will help you to:

  • find out how resilient you are to Cyber-Attacks
  • enables you to practice responses in a safe environment
  • have a clear and actionable plan to strengthen your organisation.

  • Workshop 1: Tuesday 9th November 2021 – 1 – 3pm
  • Workshop 2: Tuesday 16th November 2021 – 1 – 3pm
  • Workshop 3: Tuesday 23rd November 2021 – 1 – 3pm

Workshop 1: Human Fire Wall With Ransomware Simulation
This two-hour workshop will begin the development of your cyber security plan.

  • Learn how hackers hack you using simple social engineering
  • Phishing Attack Leading to a Ransomware Infection
  • Ethical Hacking Live Simulation – Group Exercise:
    – Identifying and reporting a suspected phishing email
    – Responding to a ransomware attack
    – Threatened leak of sensitive data Live Simulation

Post-workshop exercise: What do employees do with such emails? Is there a formal process? Do employees feel comfortable raising alerts?


Workshop 2: As Safe As Houses & Insider Threat Data Breach Simulation
The second of three workshops will delve deeper into the development of your online cyber security plan.

  • Discussion to review the post-workshop exercise and Identify if people have expanded their ideas from workshop 1
  • Ethical Hacking Live Simulation – Group Exercise:
    – Working From Home. Understand both the benefits and the additional Cyber-Security risks that home and remote working can bring.
    – Insider Threat resulting in a Data Breach

Post-workshop exercise: Using the template and toolkit, Review your Incident management plan resources and critical success factors


Workshop 3: 15 Ways To Protect Your Business From A Cyber Attack
This workshop will focus on bringing it all together and finalising your cyber security plan.

  • Discussion to review post-workshop exercise and delegates emerging plans.
  • Ethical Hacking Live Simulation – Group Exercise:
    – Bring Your Own Device
    – Being attacked from an unknown Wi-Fi network
  • How to win or lose business through Cyber-Security
  • Value Protection Framework GAP Analysis tool to support the development of the business Cyber-Security plan
